Symantec Announces Their 2005 Line of Norton Security Products
According to the Symantec website, starting this fall, Norton will be making their new line of Internet security products available. On August 18, 2004, this press release states that pre-orders are available as of the end of August. Elsewhere on the website is indication that the software will be available on October 1, 2004.
As far as adblocking goes, we don’t necessarily expect this to work any differently.
According to this comparison chart of Symantec Internet security products, we can expect this adblocking behavior to continue on three of the four products, Norton AntiVirus 2005, Norton AntiSpam 2005, and Norton Internet Security 2005.
And with Symantec’s aggressive distribution plan, shipping on 9 of the world’s top 10 notebook computers, according to this article, problems for webmasters will continue.
It’s too bad they taint an otherwise comprehensive product with their going to far on making choices for their users on what content can and cannot be seen. We’ll purchase a copy and test as soon as it’s available.

I’ve just encountered a user running NIS 2005 and discovered that Adblocking blocking is now under the Privacy Control tab. Previous versions it was labeld Ad Blocking.
