Hi,

Awesome blog :)

I recently had to restore my pc because of a browser hijacker. Now I use XoftSpy and it it is doing a great job.

Just my two cents.

Hi,

Using a combination of spywareblaster, which can be launched from inside spybot search and destroy which should tell you something ;-) and setting your browser away from the defaults, especially IE, and sweeping with http://free.grisoft.com AVG anti-virus regularly (!) you can keep most pests from seeing your machine, much less infesting it. All for zero cost. If you get a good grip on your hosts file too you will very very rarely be attacked by anything/anyone you cruise past on the net. If you also use your router's (or a free software one if you are on a modem) firewall properly no-one can force junk onto you. One of the biggest flaws in most people's security is in the "advanced", lol, options in IE like "enable install on demand" and "enable third party browser extensions" which, almost unbelievably, are on by default (!) If you catch something, or already have, google for "hijack this". It works - but a word of warning here. Get someone, from one of the many forums that will help, to interpret it's results as it does find all processes running on your computer and if you haphazardly remove them you will have a non-functioning machine pretty darn quickly (gulp)

My pc recently starting running ' Adware ', and it is causing issues on my PC and knocks me off the internet. Most of the ads are for ' Spyware ' and ' so, called free scan analysis '. I am looking for something to download and search my pc for this adware and destroy it! Any suggestions?

Personally I like Spy Sweeper and XSoftspy a lot better than Ad-aware. Ad-aware misses things that these two seem to get, like rootkits.

Spysweeper does lots of other things to help guard your system, Ad-aware doesn't.
